FAQ

What is the best age to start JamCore?

Normally, students join JamCore Live Performance Program around 8 to 12 years old, however we've had younger and older depending upon their musical abilities. Children need to have developed sufficient motor skills and cognitive abilities to understand musical concepts and handle instruments effectively. This age range also fosters creativity and confidence, crucial for live performances. Moreover, starting at this age allows for ample time to build foundational skills and grow with the program, ensuring a well-rounded and enriched musical education. That said, teenagers who aren't yet at the BandCore level are absolutely encouraged to join JamCore first and get a session or two of performing experience while they continue to work on their BandCore skills.

How do I know if I'm ready?

If you’re new to Rockstars of Tomorrow, we recommend scheduling a FREE 30-minute assessment with one of our instructors. This gives us a chance to get to know you, evaluate your current skill level, and talk through your musical goals to see if JamCore is the right fit.

If you’re already a Rockstars of Tomorrow student, we’ve included a readiness checklist on this page. It outlines the key skills to focus on with your instructor to help you prepare for this elevated live performance program. No matter where you’re starting from, our team is here to help guide you toward the best next step in your musical journey.

Do I need to own an instrument?

You should definitely have your own instrument, although many drummers at the JamCore level do not have a full set yet and that's totally okay. For all others, performing live is an exciting opportunity and owning your own tool for the trade is highly recommended.

Do I need to be in lessons?
While lessons are not required for all students, they are highly encouraged. JamCore is rehearsal time, not lesson or practice time, so students are expected to learn their songs with an instructor, practice at home, and arrive prepared to rehearse with their bandmates. With coach approval, some students may be able to learn songs independently; however, we consistently see stronger preparedness and progress from students who remain in lessons. The choice is ultimately up to you.

Where will we perform live at?

Our JamCore program is designed for musicians who have never player live on stage or in front of a crowd. This is the perfect space to make mistakes, learn and figure things out. In efforts to keep the experience fun and without stress, we generally book our shows inside of our local studio theater or somewhere very safe. At this stage, it's all about having fun and wanting more.

How do I get started?
You can sign up for any of our Band Programs at the front desk, or text the front desk line to get your name on the list. We will confirm with you a week or so beforehand and you'll have the opportunity to decline if the dates won't work or if you've changed your mind. Spots are awarded in the order they are written down so it is highly encouraged to get your name down now and back out later if needed. Once we're full, you'll be put on the waiting list. Wait list names go to the top of the sign-ups when the next round opens up.

Will I out-grow JamCore and what's next?

We have designed our live performance offerings in stages so you can grow and advance at your pace. JamCore is the first stage of 3. After you have performed live a couple times in the JamCore program, we highly recommend that you make the leap into our BandCore program designed for intermediate to advanced musicians. This is where it all starts to come together. Bigger shows, harder songs, better musicians...you get it!
